A dazzling trip to Christmas Town

"A dazzling trip to Christmas Town"

Since 2016, Dabawenyos have been generously treated to a spectacular Christmas lights extravaganza by a homegrown company wanting to bring simple joy to the city.

“We noticed years ago that there were not so many festive decorations in Davao. So, we decided to create our company’s Christmas lights display to give cheer to the community,” says Agnes Penocada, Quality Assurance Manager of Techno-Trade Resources Inc. (TTRI), a top producer of plastic construction materials.

From just catering to the families in the neighborhood, the annual famed light display began attracting people from nearby barangays and cities with fun themes such as “Christmas Tree Farm”, “Christmas City”, “Under the Sea”, “Magical Rides”, and “Christmas Instagram” through the years.

Unknown to many, the annual Christmas lights tradition also serves as a strong team-building activity for TTRI’s employees and its departments. The laudable project effectively promotes teamwork, cooperation, and creativity among various departments.

To create this year’s “Christmas Town”, a committee from each department was formed.

“With the support of TTRI’s top management, we ingeniously showcased different building structures, moving structures, and lighted displays which visitors can interact with using scrap materials from production. We recycled our PVC and PE materials to build the various structures,” explains Agnes.

The vibrant “Christmas Town” has different elements which include the “Movie Theater” by the HR, Purchasing, and QMR Departments; “Fire Station” by the Warehouse Department; “Candy House” by the Audit Department; “Gingerbread House” by the Sales and Marketing Department; “Town Hall” by the Finance and Accounting Department; “Playground” by the Production Department; “Cathedral” by the Releasing Department; “Cebu Office” by TTRI Cebu; “Ferris Wheel” by the QA Department; and “Globe” by the Credit and Collection and I.T. Departments.

The countless hours spent conceptualizing and building their respective structures are always worth it as TTRI staff experience how their labor of love brings priceless Christmas cheer to Dabawenyo families year after year.

“It is overwhelming to witness people's eagerness to see the illuminated structures and take their own pictures. We are delighted that the project brings back childhood memories and gets everyone into the holiday spirit!” smiles Agnes.
