"Cool as ice"
Sun.Star Davao, Jan. 9, 2010
Ever since she could remember, one of entrepremom Rachelle Chua-Villaceran’s biggest dreams was to have her own ice cream parlor.
But, she didn’t just want any ice cream shop, so even if it took quite a while—3 years in fact, she patiently conceptualized her dream project together with her husband Joseph and their Manila-based business partner Jackson Lee.
“I love cooking for my family. Food is really essential during our family gatherings. We see to it that we bring in something special that everyone would enjoy when we have get-togethers. Joseph also has years of experience managing one of the international food chains in the city”, shares Rachelle who co-owns a popular toy store with her sister, Gina.
Rachelle’s passion for food and Joseph’s restaurant managerial background gave the couple the courage and determination in putting up their food business. Joseph acts as Ice Giants’ operations manager.
Finally, last December, Ice Giants opened its doors to Davao’s dessert-loving public with Councilor Mabel Sunga-Acosta and Jackson cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
Conveniently located at #1 Damosa Gateway along Mamay Road in Lanang, the 60-square meter Ice Giants specializes in a variety of mouth-watering desserts and snacks. It boasts of a bright and colorful interior design which makes it an ideal snack or after-dinner stop for the whole family.
“We are proud to offer Ice Giants’ specialty—our signature fruity dessert. It is composed of super fine ice shavings and selected fruits topped with scrumptious ice cream”, describes Rachelle.
With thirteen flavors to choose from, the refreshing concoction is reasonably priced between P78 and P98. Bestselling flavors include Mango Giants, Mango-Strawberry Giants and Banana Choco Giants.
Other family-friendly must-trys are the lip-smacking Mexican Tostada, Tostitos Chips, Home-Style Pizza, Cheesy Lasagna, Southern Style Fried Chicken, Giants Club Sandwich, Hungarian Sausage, Giants Beef Burger and an assortment of splits, sundaes, parfaits and icy drinks.
“Many are curious about the concept but they never expected us to bring in something new, something different! However, after they tried our food, our customers say that they are glad that Ice Giants is here in Davao”, enthuses Rachelle.
You could say that for Dabawenyos, Ice Giants’ novel concept is as cool as ice!
Ice Giants is open from Mondays to Thursdays, 12 noon-11 pm; Fridays-Saturdays, 12 noon-12 midnight and Sundays, 11am-11pm. Telephone number: 2352168.
