The Davao Christian High School Parents-Teachers Fellowship (DCHS PTF) recently staged the “Dream Big-Year 2” musical concert with the theme “Love in Any Language” at the DCHS Auditorium.

This year’s highly successful concert showcased the exemplary talents of the DCHS Orchestra; DCHS Choir; and the DCHS Preschool, Grade School and High School Bands.

DCHS’s Practical Music Course (PMC) began in 2009 through its collaboration with Zion Praise Music, Inc.

Starting from Grade 6, the DCHS students could choose the musical instruments they wanted to learn such as piano, guitar, violin, drums, keyboards, cello, saxophone and flute.

“Our goal is that every Christian child worships the Lord through excellent music. We aim to train and fully develop God’s gift of music in every child and use this for His greater glory”, says Jermaine Misterio, conductor of ZPMI.

The ZPMI, which has been helping schools in Luzon and Mindanao strengthen their music curriculum since 2002, has held countless concerts, recitals and music camps participated by thousands of their students.

Together with the DCHS Choir, which won both 1^st place in the Koro sa Pasko (Pasko Fiesta sa Dabaw 2013) and Christmas Musical (Chorale Group Song and Dance Competition), respectively, the DCHS Orchestra came up with an impressive repertoire which wowed the audience.

From well-loved tunes such as “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika”, “The Prayer”, “Got to Believe in Magic”, “Without You”, “Paraiso”, “Love in Any Language” to “Here I Am to Worship” and “Frozen” medleys, the appreciative guests clapped and cheered in awe as they listened to the beautiful songs one after the other.

On the other hand, the DCHS Bands played with absolute gusto their interpretations of “Adonai”, “Our God”, “Where is the Love?”, “Love is the Answer” and “You are Good”.

Equally remarkable were the Preschool and Grade School Bands with their charming rendition of “Up, Up with Jesus”, “Heaven in My Heart” and “What a Beautiful Country”. They were magnificently trained by Teacher Jay Rivera and her team.

Exhibiting their piano prowess were Sojin Park (“Merry Go Round of Life”); Sharcele Galope (“Suna No Oshiro”);  Shannen Meeka Lim (“Sonatina Op. 36 No. 3’); Hayeon Jeong (“Canon Variations”) and Arvin Ong (“Claire de Lune”).

By sharing their amazing talents, the students were able to help raise a substantial amount for the purchase of additional musical instruments for the DCHS Music Room, the beneficiary of the concert-for-a-cause.

Indeed, at such a young age, the DCHS students’ musical gifts became their instruments for God’s greater glory!
