Armed with shovels, buckets, formworks, decoration and props, eight competing teams battled it out to construct the most original and eye-catching sand creations to reign the streets of Davao for a day!

Chimes Specialty Store recently brought the exciting Sanük Sandcastle Competition on the busy streets of Governor Sales.

Sanük is a popular footwear brand founded by Southern California native Jeff Kelley. “Sanuk” in Thai means warmth, enjoyment and fun. The well-loved brand promotes a positive lifestyle advocating the slogan, “Smile, Pass It On”.

Open to all sandcastle-building enthusiasts, students and professionals, each 5-man team was provided 30 square-meter “plots” or “sandboxes” with approximately 15 cubic meters of sand.

For this action-packed activity, 400 sacks of silica sand from Manila were utilized by the teams to create the spectacular sandcastle masterpieces. The sand sculptures each had the Sanük logo up to the minimum size requirement of 20”w x 10”h.

Criteria for judging were: Best architecture (30%), Creativity (25%), Sanük logo execution (25%) and Over-all impact (20%). Merlen Seng, Honeylet Avancena, Jennifer Ang, Atty. Jason Joyce and Emmylou Yap were invited as the competition’s judges.

Dowie Kristian Gordo, Danilo Enova Jr., Joemark Somosot, Bianca Argosino and Faustina Maravillas of Team KB Builders, a group of students from John Paul II College of Davao, grabbed the top prize winning P20,000 worth of cash and gift certificates.

On the other hand, the 1st runner-up award went to Kenneth Irving Ong, Joel Rodriguez, Maris Lat, John Ballandres and Micah Santos of Team 24 Hours Notice.
