The Girl Scouts of the Philippines Davao Council’s first-ever Virtual Council Camp took place in a digital space recently with the theme “Davao in the Now: Creating the Virtual Route of Change Rooting from You”.

Brilliantly spearheaded by young girl leaders and the council staff, the event successfully gathered one hundred and seventy-five registered junior scouts, senior scouts, and cadet scouts from all over Davao City.

During the plenary session, Cadet Girl Scout Ciarra Patria Pascual, National Outstanding Girl Scout from Central Luzon, spoke regarding Action on Body Confidence. She shared that “societal preferences of beauty need to stop because they could negatively affect a person’s mental health and body confidence. The only standard one needs to obtain is his/her own standard”. Pascual believes that advocating for body confidence is vital to stop the stigma and promote body positivity.

At the three-day virtual camp, the dynamic participants had to accomplish various tasks under each of the GSP’s 8-Point Challenge, namely: Challenges of the World Community, Family Life, Preparedness, Culture and Heritage, Arts, Environment, Economic Self-Sufficiency, and Spirituality and Well-Being.

There were also virtual hopping sessions featuring interactive game stations such as Scavenger Hunt, Singing Bee, “Which is Which?”, “Cheer Up! Yell be Fine”, and “Suddenly I Can’t See” that allowed the girls to mingle with their fellow participants and camp staff. In addition, for the campfire presentation, participants were divided into groups and created a video teaser related to a theme using TikTok.

In her inspirational message during the campfire, GSP Davao Council board member Hannah Caputolan enthusiastically reminded the girls “to be always optimistic and take challenges and opportunities to grow and develop to be the better versions of themselves”.

Awarded as outstanding virtual campers during the closing ceremony were Junior GS Daniela Claire Dumogho, Junior GS Kiarah Angela Cabigon, and Senior GS Wishes Camille Raguinan.

“When the camp ended, the participating girls and troop leaders expressed their fervent appreciation and gratitude to the camp and the people behind its success. As the camp lead, I was exhilarated by the fruitful conclusion of the virtual camp. I am truly grateful that all our hard work paid off!” said Cadet GS Jungil Lai Libong.
