Building character at Bright Seeds

“Building character at Bright Seeds”
Sun.Star Davao, April 26, 2014

Like seeds in the garden, children need to be lovingly nurtured to grow with all of their best potential. Aside from a supportive family, the right choice for a preschool is crucial in ensuring that kids have a strong foundation not only for the ‘big school’ but for the real world as well.

A fresh and welcome addition to the preschools in Davao is the Bright Seeds Preschool which recently opened its doors to the public with the dynamic Maria Lourdes Victoria Tionko-Imperial or simply ‘Teacher Lea’ as the school directress.

Teacher Lea has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, both with distinctions, from Assumption College in Makati City. For many years, she also worked with the preschool department of an exclusive private school in Makati City.

“While teaching, I was assigned to various leadership roles with my work which included running the preschool department. Throughout those years teaching in Manila, I learned and appreciated the importance of integrating values in the curriculum because it builds positive character among learners”, Teacher Lea, a mom of two young boys, shares.

Growing character

“Character is what defines a child. It is what leads him with his choices. A positive character builds positive action. We believe that a child learns best when he is using his five senses (see, hear, smell, taste and touch); thus, allowing him to discover, explore and develop his character”, Teacher Lea explains.

SEEDS is an acronym for Sensory Experience for Early Developmental Success which is inspired by Pestalozzi’s educational philosophy---“learning by head, hearts and hands”.
Knowledge, skills and values are imparted through Bright Seeds’ 4H Foundation of Learning, namely:

HEAD (Intellectual Development) – Concepts and knowledge are shared through sensory experience activities by using real materials for the child to explore and by allowing him to learn through the use of his five senses (see, hear, smell, taste and touch).

HANDS (Physical Development) – Physical development is as important as the intellectual and emotional/values development. Included in the activities are large and small movement skills which are the foundation of the child’s practical and creative activities.

HEART (Emotional/Values Development) – Through their character building program, the school combines lessons with values and introduces the recognition of God’s love in everything that surrounds us.

HARMONY (Social Development) – Relating well with others is an essential key to a child’s success. Cooperative learning and play are used in activities to allow kids to discover his talents and to respect the talents of others as well.

From seedlings to bloomers

This coming school-year, Bright Seeds Preschool will be offering classes daily with thematically-based activities and lessons. With a corresponding theme for each month, skills and concepts are integrated to the fun activities.

“We believe in consistency of the home and the school. That’s why we involve parents and nannies as well by having constant feedbacks and giving seminars so that there will be continuity with what is being taught in school”, Teacher Lea enthuses.

Classes offered are the following:

All set for summer at Chimes

“All set for summer at Chimes”
Sun.Star Davao, April 5, 2014

Even with a lot of big malls sprouting around the city, I still gravitate towards Chimes when it comes to high quality value-for-money finds. I totally adore its tasteful mix of well-known local and international brands that make every visit worth my time.

Be ready for summer as Chimes introduces its latest offerings in skin care, eyewear and fashion to Dabawenyos!

First in its line-up is the skin-caring makeup Happy Skin which is luxuriously infused with special skincare ingredients such as Japanese tea leaf, cherry blossom, hyaluronic acid, and argan oil, to name a few.

Jacqe Yuengtian-Gutierrez, co-founder of Happy Skin who is a well-respected authority in the beauty industry, explains that “all their key products are sourced and made in Japan because they recognize the importance of skincare in this beauty capital”.

“Happy Skin is the first makeup line that offers an entire range of skin-caring makeup,” Jacqe says. “It was especially created for women who want to look naturally beautiful, but want to make sure that their skin is also cared for. It’s for women who don't want to compromise on beauty!”, she adds.

Happy Skin’s first set of products in the market, include essential makeup items wittily named as Shut Up and Kiss Me lippie; Don’t Get Mad, Get Even liquid and powder foundations; Second Skin Créme; Eye Need A Miracle concealer; Get Cheeky With Me blush; and Eye Am Here To Stay gel and felt liners. Each product name and design was painstakingly thought of and perfected to bring out a little smile in everyone.

Jacqe and her business partner, model and beauty columnist Rissa Mananquil-Trillo, assure that they are very hands-on and test every single sample until they achieve a product that will make women happy as they pucker up, conceal and blend their skin to perfection!

Next in Chime’s summer must-haves is Sunnies by Charlie, an independent eyewear and lifestyle brand based in Manila. It was founded in 2013 with the vision of providing quality eyewear at affordable costs.

Sunnies’ successful Davao launch at Chimes is a testament that the brand has created a cult following. The promotion for the 100 Sunnies’ give-away stated that it would start at 10 am but as early as 8 am, there were almost 200 students and young professionals eagerly lining up at Chimes.

What made the launch extra memorable was the presence of Georgina Wilson who is one of the most recognized faces and social media authorities in the Philippines. Georgina serves as Sunnies’ director of marketing.

Sunnies offers curated eyewear with UV protection with prices starting at an unbelievably low price of Php 249. From unisex, retro-inspired and classic styles, Sunnies has a pair to suit its discriminating customers.

And last but not the least is my personal favorite Plains and Prints. Even my soon-to-be- teen daughter loves their dresses!

Recently, Plains and Prints released its highly-anticipated Spring Summer 2014 Collection in collaboration with Rhett Eala, one of the country’s top fashion designers.

This season’s designs “take inspiration from various tropical elements and artistic moods that embody the fun-loving yet smart and sophisticated look of the brand”.

The exquisite Spring Summer 2014 collection consists of its Water Collection; Air Collection; Swimsuit and Cover-Ups; Summer Dresses; Saint Tropez; Domestic Bliss; and Art Nouveau.

In a press statement, celebrity, fashion icon and brand endorser Anne Curtis expresses her love for the collections. “I will always be the fun-loving, girly girl that I am. But I’d like my audience to know that I’ve grown up and become more mature, too. That’s why this year, I’ve decided to dress more responsibly”, she shares.

Undoubtedly, Anne’s personality and lifestyle “reflect what the work-wear brand stands for—fresh and fashionable”.

Indeed, this collaboration between the brand’s new endorser Anne Curtis and designer par-excellance Rhett Eala is yet another Perfect Partnership by Plains and Prints.
